When/how did you join Marsh?
I joined Marsh through the TRAC Program in September of 2012 after graduating with a business degree in Finance from Santa Clara University. I have been a member of the Global Marine Practice for my entire career so far with Marsh. I am located in the San Francisco office and I currently have three roles that I serve: National Cargo Hub Leader, Senior Cargo Advisor and policy form expert for the U.S. Cargo Practice.
Describe your time in the TRAC Program
The TRAC Program was instrumental in getting additional exposure and learning opportunities early on in my career that wouldn’t have been as readily available through the standard channels at Marsh. The program began with a two-week orientation in our New York Headquarters that included professional training as well as presentations and meet-and-greets with senior level leadership at the company. Following the TRAC Program, I became an Associate Placement Specialist in the San Francisco Marine department. Currently, I lead and manage the National Cargo Hub, which is a team of Cargo Advisors and Placement Specialists that handle all of the cargo business for the entire country with annual premium of $200K and under.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My favorite part of my job is getting to learn about all different companies in every industry from all regions of the country. In my role as Senior Cargo Advisor, I design marine cargo insurance programs for large companies, which involves gathering exposure information and negotiating with the insurance carriers to get the best deal for the client. It never gets boring getting to work with so many other great companies on a daily basis.
Do you have any advice for candidates or incoming TRAC associates?
For anyone looking to join the TRAC Program, I would highly suggest doing some research on the industry beforehand but also to just be themselves at the interviews. When interviewing potential future TRAC Associates, I always try to get a feeling for what it would be like to work with that person since working as a team is so crucial to what we do at Marsh.
