Sally | TRAC Associate

When/how did you join Marsh?
I graduated from Emory University with an Economics and English/Creative Writing double major back in 2016 and joined Marsh in August of that year. I’m currently a second year TRAC working in the property department in the Atlanta office, but before that I spent a year working in the FINPRO department which focuses on the financial lines.
Describe your time in the TRAC Program
The ability to move around and work in different departments within the two year TRAC rotational program has been very beneficial because it not only provides ample opportunity to grow in various different career paths, it also assists newly graduated college students in the transition from college to the workforce. The chance to explore some of the matrices of Marsh before deciding on where to transition post-TRAC provides the flexibility of finding an area that appeals the most to each person. Another benefit of joining the program is that all TRACs come in with a support system consisting of other TRACs dispersed throughout the country. It is helpful to know and be able to rely on colleagues that are going through the same timeline at Marsh, and this network follows TRACs long after the end of the two-year program.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My first year was on the advisory side with FINPRO and I handled a variety of accounts being the day to day client servicing contact as well as assisting in all parts of the renewal timeline from the renewal strategy meeting to creating the post binding documentation and policy issuance. My time in property has been more market-facing, and I spend a lot of the day interacting with the carriers. Since I transitioned to property right after HIM (Harvey, Irma, and Maria), I was exposed to a more turbulent market which has served as a great fast-paced learning experience. My time in both departments have helped me gain a better insight into the industry and how Marsh strives to stay on top of market disrupters to be as proactive as possible in serving our clients. I will be transitioning off of the TRAC program and into the Financial Institutions Center of Excellence group in our New York office later this year and look forward to broadening my horizons in this industry.
Do you have any advice for candidates or incoming TRAC associates?
Some advice I would give to anyone interested in joining the industry would be to always be open to new opportunities and to seek mentors along the way. Tapping into other people’s knowledge and experiences has been one of the most important takeaways I’ve gotten throughout my time at Marsh.
