When/how did you join Marsh?
After graduating in 2014 from St. Joseph’s University with a degree in International Business, I joined Marsh as a member of the TRAC program.
Describe your time in the TRAC Program
I spent my first three years at Marsh in the Energy & Power practice where I was responsible for the advisory and placement of property and casualty insurance for clients in industries including oil and gas, power and utilities, petrochemical, and renewable energy. I gained valuable knowledge of the broking of technical insurance, as well as an appreciation for the art of client service. I had the opportunity to participate in insurer engineering visits at client facilities to witness firsthand what keeps an underwriter awake at night. I attended domestic and international underwriter meetings to further our client’s partnership with the market and pitch our renewal terms to insurers.
What does a typical day look like for you?
In 2017, I joined Marsh’s Private Equity and M&A Services (PEMA) practice as a Project Manager. As a member of PEMA, my responsibilities include performing due diligence reporting on target companies and providing transitional oversight through post-close of transactions. PEMA primarily acts as an insurance advisor for Private Equity firms who are bidding on companies for sale. In this role, I am responsible for advising clients on all insurance coverage lines for target companies across all industries.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of Marsh is the ability to benefit from the strong support of both product line and industry experts, regardless of the topic. The depth of knowledge at Marsh is unparalleled in the market, and that enables client-facing colleagues to deliver a superior product.
Do you have any advice for candidates or incoming TRAC associates?
My advice for anyone looking to join the TRAC program is to demonstrate a willingness and ability to both learn and create relationships. Regardless of your major in college, much of insurance broking and client service is learned by observing and doing. Teams are looking for quick learners and people who will be able to establish strong relationships with clients and underwriters. Creating a trusting relationship with the client and insurers can have a big impact on getting a deal done.
