Labor and Employment Law: What to Expect in 2017

Following the change of leadership in Washington, D.C., it’s likely that we’ll see changes to labor and employment laws and regulations. For example, laws that the previous administration may have considered more “employee friendly” may come under fire and enforcement could wane.

Marsh recently held a one-hour webcast to discuss specific areas of labor and employment law that employers should follow carefully in the coming months, including:

  • The use of executive orders to alter the workplace law.
  • What to expect from the Department of Labor secretary.
  • Potential rollback of the Fair Labor Standards Act’s “white collar exemption” rule.
  • A renewed focus on employer compliance, with less emphasis on strict enforcement of rules.
  • Employment practices liability and wage and hour insurance-related considerations for employers.
  • Pre-loss activities to mitigate claims and litigation.
